5 October 2022 Lausanne, Switzerland: The FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela bursts into action in exactly 100 days at the joint venues of Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar and the brand-new Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The 16 teams in the hunt for the gold medal know their pools and the opponents that stand between them and the ultimate glory. The organizing team has pulled out all the stops to ensure the best possible experience for the players and the fans. The officials are primed and ready to ensure a smooth-running and fairly contested tournament. The fans are ready to cheer for the biggest hockey stars, and witness the highest quality of hockey action that will set their pulses racing! Both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela are located in the state of Odisha in India which has hosted various international hockey events in recent years including the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup in 2021 and the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in 2018. This will be the second consecutive men’s world cup being hosted in the State of Odisha, India. The opening day of action in the World Cup will see matches being played in both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, as 2016 Olympic Gold medalists Argentina take on reigning African Champions South Africa in the opening encounter, followed by more Pool A action between World No. 1 Australia and the rapidly improving France, at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The action will then shift to Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, where England will take on Wales in the first game to be played at the brand-new stadium. The final game of the opening day will pit hosts India against Spain in a contest that has proven to be full of goals, in recent times. Agenda of 48th FIH Congress published

5 October 2022 Lausanne, Switzerland: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has published today the agenda of its 48th Congress, which will be held virtually on 4-5 November. The upcoming meeting of the supreme organ of hockey’s world governing body includes the election of the new FIH President and of Executive Board Ordinary Members, which will take place on 5 November. The candidates are: For the position of FIH President: Marc Coudron, BEL Mohammad Tayyab Ikram, MAC For the positions of Executive Board (EB) Ordinary Member: Female Members (2 positions): Maureen Craig-Rousseau, TTO (candidate for re-election) Elizabeth Safoa King, GHA (candidate for re-election) Marion Rodewald, GER Male Members (2 positions): Hiroya Anzai, JPN Walter Krämer, CHI Simon Mason, ENG David Wansbrough, AUS Piotr Wilkonski, POL John Williamson, NZL Deon Morgan, RSA Four positions as EB Members of the FIH Executive Board will be elected at the Congress, or five if current EB Member Mohammad Tayyab Ikram is elected as President. The mandates of the EB members who will be elected on 5 November 2022 will run until the 2026 FIH Congress. If there is a fifth position as EB Member to be elected, the term of office of that member will be of two years to take over the remaining two years of Mohammad Tayyab Ikram as an EB Member. The duration of the term of the new FIH President will be of 2 years, in order to complete the mandate of previous FIH President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra who resigned on 18 July. The FIH Executive Board consists of: The FIH President; Eight Ordinary members – four female and four male Members -, one half being renewed every two years; An Athletes’ Representative; The Presidents of the Continental Federations; The FIH CEO; Any (non-voting) member co-opted onto the Executive Board pursuant to Article 7.1(c) of the FIH Statutes. Elections will be conducted via e-voting (art. 6.3 c) FIH Statutes) and overseen by the FIH Elections Oversight Panel (EOP), as stipulated in the FIH Elections Manual (art. 11). UK company Lumi will operate the e-voting process. Furthermore, FIH has appointed an independent notary (from UK firm Cheeswrights Scrivener Notaries LLP), who will chair and oversee the election process. His powers are delegated by the Elections Oversight Panel. As specified in the FIH Statutes (article 2.2(a)(ii)), newly approved Members present at Congress will have the right to participate in meetings of Congress and to cast a vote on resolutions put to Congress. This year, the Indonesian Hockey Federation (PP FHI) is applying for membership. On the eve of the Congress, all delegates have been invited to join a virtual conference – titled “Stronger Together” – organised by FIH where major topics such as fan engagement, innovation, sustainability and development will be discussed. FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar – Rourkela: Argentina-South Africa to open the show!

27 September 2022 Lausanne, Switzerland: 2016 Olympic Gold medallists Argentina and Africa’s highest-ranked nation South Africa will open the 2023 FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup! The thrilling encounter between these two powerhouses of international hockey will take place on 13 January 2023 in the iconic Kalinga Stadium of Bhubaneswar, which hosted the last Men’s World Cup final in 2018. The second match of the day in Bhubaneswar will see world’s number one Australia taking on France, in a repeat of the 2018 World Cup quarter-final. Later on the same day, the brand-new Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will host its first-ever FIH World Cup matches, starting with a “derby” between England and Wales, followed by the local heroes of India playing in front of their home fans against Spain. Meeting with Egyptian Sports Minister

Egypt to host the 1st African Hockey 5s World Cup in December 2022

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, met on Monday with Mr. Seif Ahmed, Acting President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Mr. Sherif Kamal, President of the الاتحاد المصري للهوكي Egyptian Hockey Federation 2020, Mr. Ahmed Azmy, CEO of the African Hockey Federation and Mr. Tarek Mostafa, Vice President of the Egyptian Hockey Federation. The meeting discussed preparations for Egypt to host the 1st African Hockey 5s World Cup qualifier next December 2022 and the U21 Junior Africa Cup next March 2023. The meeting also reviewed the study of Egypt to host next March a demonstration Hockey 5s Championship by the iconic Pyramids. The meeting took place in the presence of a number of leaders of the Ministry, including Dr. Muhammad Al-Kurdi, Head of the Central Department of Sports Performance and Mr. Ihab Al-Ebyari, Director General of Sports Facilities. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy affirmed Egypt’s full readiness to host various tournaments throughout the year thanks to Egypt’s unique characteristics and in light of the directives of the political leadership to make Egypt a global platform for hosting major tournaments and sporting events. FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar – Rourkela: Pools revealed!

8 September 2022 Lausanne, Switzerland: On the occasion of the draw ceremony held today at the Convention Centre, in Lok Sewa Bhawan, Bhubaneswar (India), the four Pools of the upcoming FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar – Rourkela have been determined as follows: Pool A is headed up by current FIH World Rankings (WR) number one Australia, who got the bronze medal at the last World Cup in 2018. They will play 2016 Olympic Champions Argentina (WR:7), France (WR:11), playing their fourth World Cup, and African Champions South Africa (WR:14). In Pool B, reigning World Champions Belgium (WR:2) are the top seed and they were drawn to face 2002 and 2006 World Champions Germany (WR:4). Both European teams will face two representatives from Asia, namely Korea (WR:12) and Japan (WR:17). Pool C will feature the finalists from the last edition, the Netherlands (WR:3), at the head of the group. They will come up against the other Oceania’s representative New Zealand (WR:9), Malaysia (WR:10), playing their ninth World Cup, and newcomers Chile (WR:23), participating for the very first time in a FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup. In Pool D, hosts India are the highest ranked side (WR:5). They will face England (WR:6), which they’ve recently met at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 for a thrilling encounter (4-4), two-time silver medallists (1971, 1998) Spain (WR:8) and Wales (WR: 16), who, like Chile, will play their maiden World Cup. As already announced, India, Australia, Belgium and Netherlands were placed on the first row of their corresponding Pools based on the FIH World Rankings as per 1 June 2022.
